For backup and mobility (computer, phone, and tablet):
BeeDrive requires a computer with one of the following operating systems:
For Deep Search:
Deep Search requires a computer with the following specifications:
An Internet connection is only needed for installation and setup. After that:
Yes, you can back up 5 mobile devices at once.
Yes, although backing up over Wi-Fi is generally faster since it is not constrained by the Internet speed of your phone and computer. Please keep in mind that if you intend to back up remotely, ensure that the computer is connected to BeeDrive, running the BeeDrive desktop software, and not in sleep mode.
Deep Search works with many common image and document formats, including jpg, png, heic, gif, bmp, tif, and raw images, as well as pdf, docx, pptx, xlsx, csv, and txt documents. See the full list and details.
Deep Search currently supports 12 languages including Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
At the moment, Deep Search requires a computer to run AI indexing and interpret your searches, so it is not available in the BeeDrive mobile app.
On an M3 MacBook, Deep Search can index about 30,000–40,000 photos per day or around 100 documents in 20–30 minutes, depending on file size and content. Large PDFs with hundreds of pages take longer. Small updates usually finish within minutes.
Absolutely. As long as you unlock BeeDrive through BitLocker on Windows or Disk Utility on macOS whenever you connect it to your computer, BeeDrive will work.
It’s worth noting that after unlocking BeeDrive, you might need to open the BeeDrive desktop app and click on Search Again to initiate its operation. Once done, the desktop app will perform backups and sync with your computer folders.
Apple silicon-based Mac blocks third-party apps' kernel extension by default, therefore BeeDrive requires users to manually enable the Kernal Extension to function properly. Along the setup process, you will need to adjust the Security Policy of the Mac to "Reduced Security" and "Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers" from your Mac’s System settings.
Please note that Security Policy mentioned here does not relate to safeguarding your mac from malware. It only allows BeeDrive to install the needed kernel extension, which is also approved by Apple. Please see the step-by-step guide to complete the setup.
